hi artsi!

thanx for replying. try visiting VisualRoute Server, it uses a java applet to trace the route to an ip address
how do i find out the route taken by the n/w to connect to an IP address
Hi andrez,
thanx for the reply as far as the first case is concerned i understand what u r pointing out is correct, but the second case (i.e my personal IIS server) i wonder what the problem is, coz if i try to send a mail to the same server (or a server on the intranet) the prog work, hence the problem is not associated with incorrect SMTP server address. can u suggest some other (public)server that can be accessed for the same coz i dont have access to the univ SMTP server.
Another thing that i couldn't make out was the inaccessibility of hclinfinet account for reading POP3 mails (as i couldn't be SENDING any spam mails n i was providing the username n password to authenticate myself) see if u can help...
regards dey!

Hi folks!
i have a problem sending mail using JavaMail API. i don't know which eMail server to use, im using Win2000 box with IIS installed, but when i try sending mail using this mail server i get the exception :

i also tried sending & reading mail thru the hclinfinet SMTP server (using the ip addresses of the SMTP & POP3 servers) but i got the exception:

it seems the problem is in getting access to the specified server which should not happen as i am a registered user of hclinfinet.
Could u help in sorting out the prob...
Thanx in advance.
Dey.

hi alex
can't we do the same thing by extending the classes Login & NewUser from the class Error.
any specific reason why inner classes be given preference over inheritance

hi srinivas
first bout an inner class, it is a class defined within another class. now to create instances of the inner class u need an instance of its containing class.. i.e given a class Outer that contains another class Inner, to create an instance of Inner u must use
a)Outer o = new Outer();
Inner in = o.new Inner();
or
b)Outer.Inner in = new Outer().new Inner();
but a static inner class doesn't need an outer class instance, the following code would work for a static inner class, but not for one which isn't static
Outer.Inner in= new Outer.Inner();
but as far as the usage is concerned, its something even i need help on....

hi dave,
the basic requirement for moving the components is to set the LayoutManager of the container to 'null'.
Then the components can be moved within their container by using Component.setLocation(x, y); or Component.setLocation(Point p)
u will also need to set the size of the component by using Component.setSize(width, height)or Component.setSize(Dimension d)
the size needs to be set coz the location & the size are set to a default 0 if the LayoutManager is null
hope this solves ur problem

hi guys
saving simple text files is ok. is there a RichTextBox kinda control in awt/swings or say i wanna create an editor that
1. supports different formats ( fonts etc ) for different sections of text
2. restores the text format when the file is reopened
3. parses the text entered ( eg ) and generate appropriate smiley chars the problem is that i don't know the corresponding char codes... or are these images being inserted into text
4. unicode char set supports around 64k chars, are all of them usable on all platforms, if not what are the deciding factors
got any suggestions???
