Hi all,
Yay I passed. (After 4 weeks and 3 days of waiting for my result!!)
Won't go into details about my project as I was doing the old Fly By Night so not relevant to too many people here now. I thought my mark was fair - too be honest by the end i was going for a pass mark rather than a perfect score. (plus I hate documentation )
Section Summary Report:
General Considerations: Maximum=58 Deductions13 Actual=45
Documentation: Maximum=20 Deductions=7 Actual=13
GUI: Maximum=24 Deductions=0 Actual=24
Server: Maximum=53 Deductions=0 Actual=53
Total: Maximum=155 Deductions=20 Certification Score=135
I didn't really post questions but the SCJD forum is a mine of useful information, so thanks to all who particpated. Every question I thought of someone had already asked.
I am now taking a breather from certification. I have installed Linux on my computer and am fiddling with that at the moment.
Good luck to everyone else who's still working on it (or waiting for their results)

Hey, I'm glad some other people are still working on it - I had started to think I was the only one left. I started in Sep 2002 but didn't get much time to work on it, and every time I went back to work on it I'd forgotten what I'd done the last time
Anyhow, since middle November I've been trying to spend several hours a week on it and I (finally!!) uploaded my assignment last night (well tried to - sent my email to Sun at least) and I'm sitting the exam in 4 hrs time.
So don't give up. And document what you've done as you go along if you're working on it over a long period of time.
So all that is left is hoping that I'm going to pass
Because I really couldn't face doing any more work on it.
Linda
PS. Anurag, if you do a search on posts in this forum most of the posts from 2001 and 2002 should be about the Fly By Night assignment.
I believe the weakest "in use" currency is the Turkish lira
1.00 USD United States Dollars = 1,374,912.21 TRL Turkey Liras
1 USD = 1,374,912.21 TRL
1 TRL = 0.000000727319 USD

I always find the book at amazon.com and read the reviews there as there's hardly ever enough reviews on a book on amazon.co.uk to get an impression of the book. So it may be that no-one reads the UK reviews which is why there aren't many votes But don't let that discourage you!

Dogs with "brindle" marking are stripey. This is mainly seen in Great Danes, Greyhounds, and Boxers. The stripes aren't as prominent or "clean-cut" as eg. a tabby cat though.

PS. I would have though Thylacine was more strictly a marsupial rather than a dog, despite its common name and appearance, and therefore wouldn't count.

The difference there is everyone can potentially get a BSCS or 3+ yrs experience (ok in real life it depends on skill, money, luck etc) so it is not excluding people whereas it is much more difficult for the male candidate to become female (I know there's operations you can have but thats beside the point). Thats what makes this unfair (and illegal in a lot of countries).
Kevin,
My company is obviously doing well then, there's 40 developers here and 4 of them are women - a whole 10% I think they'd like to increase the balance, but the problem is there's no women applying when they do recruit.

Hi Sarah,
Your JLabel won't dynamically update just because the variables you initially set its value with have changed.
In the actionPerformed() method, after you set the new values of "month" and "year" you need to add something like:

How about making your class extend Canvas (or Panel) and implementing the Runnable interface.

This isn't strictly geocaching, but its a great project and interesting to read the stories.

I am in San Diego next week for a few days, and I was wondering if anyone who lives there/has been there had any suggestions on good things to do.
I have on my list: SeaWorld, the Zoo, and some surfing (and probably some shopping, knowing me  ). Any other suggestions?
Any suggestions on a good surfing beach at this time of year (beginner level and not too far from the city)?
I was looking at the whale watching trips. Has anyone been on those? How likely are you to see whales at this time of year? Does anyone have any suggestions on what company is best?
Thanks for your help.
