Apologies for the quick misguided replay above. You are right. The answer is wrong(including the non chain example above).
"String java.lang.String.replace(char oldChar, char newChar)
Returns a string resulting from replacing all occurrences of oldChar in this string with newChar. "

Too bad i gave a wrong reply and i cannot edit or delete the post or is there any way to edit the post?

Luanrkiran kumar wrote:concept: Method chaining at page number 111 the output of the result should be AnimAl but the book says Animal.correct me if I was wrong.

The answer in the book is correct. toLowerCase() has changed the string to "animal" then replace method replaces "a" with "A".
So answer is Animal.
It is just chaining form of more elaborated example given above it (at the end of page 110 to beginning of 111 page ).
Have you tried executing the snippet?
Thank you Narayana,

Thanks for useful lines

It would be better if you refer OCAJP8 by Sybex which is written fully OCAJP8 point of view

I will try to get that book from my friend, but as I covered almost all topics of OCA 7 from K&B,could you please tell me which are the specific topics in Sybex book that i needed to concentrate more in OCA 8 point of view?
I am Revising K&B as of now. Thank you in advance.
Hi All,
I am preparing for OCA 8. and I have completed "Kathy Sierra - OCA/OCP Java SE 7 Programmer I & II Study Guide"'s OCA part . As i need to finish the additional new objectives for OCA 8,

from objectives mapping i found
  • 1) OCA 7 : 1.3 Create executable Java applications with a main method; run a Java program from the command line; including console output.  is now  -->     OCA 8:  1.3 + new topic
  • 2) OCA 7 : 1.5 Compare and contrast the features and components of Java such as: platform independence, object orientation, encapsulation, etc.    is now  -->   OCA 8:   n/a - new topic
  • 3) OCA 7 : 2.5 Use call methods on user-created wrapper class objects (grammatical error reported to Oracle - think this means primitive wrappers    is now  -->      OCA 8:  n/a - new topic
  • 4) OCA 7 : 9.3 Create and manipulate calendar data using classes from java.time.LocalDateTime, java.time.LocalDate, java.time.LocalTime, java.time.format.DateTimeFormatter, java.time.Period    is now  -->     OCA 8:  n/a - new topic
  • 5) OCA 7 : 9.5 Write a simple Lambda expression that consumes a Lambda Predicate expression    is now  -->     OCA 8:   n/a - new topic

  • I need to complete these objectives too so that i can go for mock exams and review. But i dont have any other books except "K&B OCA 7" which i mentioned above. I can search online or oracle docs for 4) DateTime API  and 5) Lambda Expressions for preparation but i have no idea above first 3 objectives in my list how to prepare? Are there any links for preparation for newly added OCA 8 objectives ?
And also are there any objectives that are added in OCA 8 apart from above mentioned 5 topics?

Thank you so much Roel De Nijs , for your point to point explanation. You cleared almost all of my confusions
    Hi Jeanne Boyarsky,
    Thank you for suggestion

K&B 7 + a bit of online materials will be fine for OCA 8. You would need to buy a different book for OCP * if you choose to take the version 8 exams.

So for OCA 8 , there is no need of buying an additional book ? K&B 7 + Enthuware + Online material is enough ?
Can you please explain what does the "online material" refers to ? Enthuware ? Can you share any link if have ?

    Thanks in advance
    Hi all,
I am a java developer with 10 months experience. I am exhausted with non-java support project in my organization. Though I am a java resource, I have been getting all non-technical work(it been 8 months since I have written java code). I feel I losing grip on my technical skills. But every day I practise code snippets of core java 1 hour. In the process of improving my java skills thereby to move to Java Development side, I am planning for schedule my Java certification exam in 2 months.
The problem is about time which I am getting now after 9 am to 9 pm non-programming work environment I still managing one hour to maintain my focus towards skill.

So Stating my situation above, I am planning to go for OCA 7 and bought "OCA/OCP Java SE 7 Programmer I & II Study Guide (Exams 1Z0-803 & 1Z0-804). by Bert Bates, Kathy Sierra"

The reason I planned JAVA SE 7 over JAVA SE 8 is mainly due to the
    1. The Environment which I have practised(code snippets) so far are on 1.7.
    2. The material (K&B) is so reliable. I didn't find such material for JAVA 8(In the exam oriented ).
The above two reasons made me easy for me to prepare for the OCA 7 exam (comparatively with OCA 8).
    3. Next year I might be getting the chance of company reimbursable certification (If I decided to stay in the same company) thereby I can move to forthcoming version(JAVA 9).

The above reasons could be wrong, So please correct me if I was wrong in anywhere. If taking OCA 7 over OCA 8 is such a big mistake then please guide me through the best possible solution.

    And few doubts:
    1. Are two months of preparation enough for passing both OCA and OCP (with 3 hours per day )?
    2. Reading K&B OCA 7 will help me towards OCA 8, in case if I changed my mind (more likely "if I get more free time" )
    3. If nothing goes right here I will need to think about higher studies(MS) after one year. So how JAVA 7 certification be helpful to get the job after MS, 2 years from now?

Suggest me plan according to my situation I mention above and most importantly correct me If my reasons or assumptions wrong. I need to decide by tomorrow whether I need to start preparing for OCA 7 or OCA 8.
This is my first post in coderanch. if possible please provide me with some helpful links and relatable experiences.
