Biography
I’m Raul. I’m a 4x year old dude from sunny Spain, where I’ve been working as a Software Engineer since 1999, doing all kind of stuff but mainly as a Java Programmer and Technical Project Manager.

To be honest, I’ve actually been programming since I was eleven when dad brought home an Amstrad CPC 6128 computer. That’s when it all started: programming languages, computer graphics and homemade video games!

I really enjoy programming and learning new stuff every day. Let’s say I win the lottery today. Tomorrow I would wake up and would like to spend my day coding… well, you’re right: I would take a few weeks to travel and all that, but you get the point.

I don’t consider myself a Java guru. However after all this time working in the IT world and having studied for some of the toughest certifications (Sun Java Designer, Project Management Professional and Oracle Java Programmer) what you could truly say about me is that I’ve become certified on getting certifications.

Hi Ben, Jason and Martijn,

Congratulations for the second edition of your new book.

I'm currently researching options for:

- Migrating a classic JAX-RS application made with Java 8 and Jersey to a microservices arquitecture based application
- Moving from a "manual way of deployment in the server" to a more DevOps pipeline, including Openshift Container Platform as the platform to deploy in containers

Does your book fit in any of these areas in any way? Would it be heplful for this migration project?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Alex and Jason,

Congratulations for your new book.

I'm currently researching options to migrate a classic JAX-RS application made with Jersey to a microservices arquitecture based application. Is it Quarkus a good fit for this migration project?

Regarding your book, I have seen that it assumes the reader to have knowledge about technologies like JPA, JAX-RS, CDI, Eclipse Microprofile or Eclipse Vert.x. I have experience with some of these technologies (JAX-RS or CDI) but not others. Do you consider an essential requirement to have this knowledge before reading your book?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Staff,

Following your instructions for winners of the Book Promo for "DevOps Tools for Java Developers", on June 4th I sent an e-mail containing the requested information to bookpromotion@javaranch.com.

However, I did not get any reply yet.

Could you please confirm that you received my email?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Stephen, Melissa, Ixchel, and Baruch,

Congratulations for your new book.

I see in the book Table of Contents that you have included a chapter (2. The System of Truth) dedicated to Git.
Could you please explain a little bit the goal of this chapter in relation to DevOps?
For someome like me, still working with Subversion, does this chapter contains all the knowledge I would need to know for my jump into the use of version control for DevOps (Microservices, CI, Automated tests, etc)?

Thanks in advance.

As you probably already know, Java 9 has recently been released (September 2017).

That doesn't mean Java 9 certification exams have also been released.

Oracle usually takes its time to release the certification exams. First there is a several-month period intended for beta exams (more about this at https://javacertificationroadmap.com/7-common-questions-about-the-java-certification/).

In case you are interested, beta exams can be a good opportunity to get your certification at a much lower cost (usually 50$).

All this being said, you're right: based on the previous Java exam releases, my guess is the Java 9 certification exam will be released some time in 2018.
Hi guys!

Just a couple of quick things.

First, I just wanted to let you know about my recent post: Benefits You Can Expect From Getting a Java Certification. It gathers a bunch of useful information for people thinking about getting this valuable credential.

Second, since the Java Certification Roadmap book is featured on both the CodeRanch OCA 7/8 Study Materials topic and the OCAJP FAQ, I wanted to let you know an important update about it. The book is now available with a free bonus book: 57 Java Certification Tricky Questions. This new book is the perfect complement to get an even better certification preparation. It contains a selection of tricky questions (along all the answers and explanations) similar to what you can find in the real exam, so you can get familiar to them in advance and avoid them to catch you off guard while you are doing the test.

Happy coding and good luck!

PS: In case you're interested in the book, please don't hesitate to contact me. I will issue a promo code to all folks contacting from Coderach.
