Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I'm trying to set a session in a servlet (running on TOMCAT) in this way:

session.setAttribute("name",object);
response.sendRedirect(/xy/web.jsp);

In web.jsp I try to check the attribute with:
session.getAttribute("name");

But it is null! I know, that for cookies you have to specify the path, where the Browser will send the Cookie. Is this also true for HTTPSessions? What can I do?

thanks,

Hi,
I created my own LookAndFeel as subpackage in my application. To set it I did the following:
programmatically in the start class (dbgui.Start) I wrote:
package dbgui;
.....
public static void....
UIManager.setLookAndFeel("dbgui.modellooks.MotifSpecial");
On the commandline I wrote:
java -Dswing.defaultlaf=dbgui.modellooks.MotifSpecial dbgui.Start
In a recommendation of John Zukowskis "definitive guide to swing for java 2" the commandline has to look as follows:
java -Xbootclasspath:HomeOfJsk\jre\lib\rt.jar;HomeDirectoryOfLookAndFeel
Dswing.defaultlaf=dbgui.modellooks.MotifSpecial dbgui.Start
But it functions without writing the Xbootclasspath in most cases. Can anyone tell me, why? In which cases do I have to use this statement additionally?
Thanks for your help,

Hi,
I have to import a file from spss, a *.por-file. It has a lot of information I do not exactly understand. I have to read out certain information from it.
Does anybody know, how to handle this file format?
Is there some literature concerning this kind work?
Thanks,

thank you for your help!
The code gave me a good impression of the implementation. It is much clearer now!

Hi,
I've got the problem, that I do not know, when I have to implement a method and when it is already implemented (regarding Interfaces):
1. Example
Vector v=new Vector();
Enumeration e=v.elements();
e.hasMoreElements();
Enumeration is an Interface, but its methods are already implemented. Where? I do not see, that Vector implements Enumeration.
2. Example
all the Listener-Interfaces have to be implemented.
How can I decide, when Implementation is necessary and when it is already done?
thanks for your help,

hi,
I'm working on a GUI for an actual project and would like to do the following;
|_________________|__________________________|
|_________________|__________________________|
->you can write some text into these fields
->every time you wrote into these pairs of fields a new pair will appear
->Input from the fields has to be saved, after all fields are filled in.
Is there a component I didn't know, that can handle this?
Thanks for your help in advance,

Hi,
I used the htmlConverter, which did fine work so I can see a SwingApplet in the IE. But I would like to understand it as well.
This is the classid written:
classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-805F499D93"

is it always the same for a java plugin of any version for any IE version? How do I know, which classid I need? Is there a list?
Will this download take place when there is a lower version or no plugin or no vm or in any case? From this address:
codebase="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/autodl/jinstall-1_4_0-win.cab#Version=1,4,0,0">
Do I force the use of the plugin instead of the use of default vm with this?

<PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4">
What, if there is another Version e.g. 1.3? Will this be taken instead or is there a download or nothing?

Hi maulin,
thanks for your reply. I would like to try your recommedation with a servlet.
1. client would connect to my servlet
2. servlet generates the applet via call of a
HMTL-page which in turn calls the applet via
applet tags.
3. my applet communicates with the servlet via
XML-Protocol.
Ad 3) I'm not familiar with this. How does this communication function?

Hi,
I want to use an Applet to communicate with my database. I don't want to this with a signed applet. Maybe with a servlet, that calls my applet? Is this O.K. concerning Security?

with a little delay:
thanks a lot. I see that I loose the platform independence when doing this. I didn't work with jni by now.
