I figured out the way to restrict directory listing for jetty. Hope this helps ppl in same situation.

edit webdefault.xml and set dirAllowed to false
<servlet>
<servlet-name>default</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.Default</servlet-class>
<init-param>
<param-name>dirAllowed</param-name>
<param-value>false</param-value>
</init-param>
</servlet>

Note, if no default descriptor is specified then webdefault.xml usually included in jetty.jar is used, which allows directory listing.

this link proved very useful

Hi,
I want to disable directory listing, I am using jetty 4.2.14 as my web container, just looking for a property to be configured in my web.xml which would restrict directory browsing.

I am tried this congiguration:-
<servlet>
<servlet-name>default</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.Default</servlet-class>
<init-param>
<param-name>dirAllowed</param-name>
<param-value>false</param-value>
</init-param>
</servlet>

but failed.....

It gives this exception while starting the server:
(Partial trace)
org.mortbay.util.MultiException[javax.servlet.UnavailableException: Configuration problem]

Any input is highly appreciated

Hi,
I want to organise the passed HashTable to the Report filling operation at run time.

code:
Hashtable activityDataMax = new Hashtable();
parameters.put("maxActivityTime",activityDataMax);

JasperPrint jasperPrint = JasperManager.fillReport(jasperReport,
parameters, conn);

Though I have the Hashtable available, the problem is how to retrieve the key & values (iterate the hastable), and organize it in a well formatted way in the Designer XML.

The OS which is omnipresent, the discovery of the code being accessed by the HACKERS could be fatal, leading to more attacks , Microsoft whole business model is based on maintaining the secrecy to code have not only opened the debate how secure are our application / business are on WINDOWS platform. Unlike LINUX (being Open-source) there is no verify how susceptible is windows to brute-force attack, its TIME TO MAKE WINDOWS an OPEN-SOURCE

Hi,
I am absolutely new with LOG4j development. Need more understanding with the api. Have so far grasped the basic working of the API with ConsoleAppender and FileAppender, but so far was hardly able to get information about JDBCAppender of JDBCPlus package.

NB: Plz send me relevant links of tutorial, sample code of JDBCAppender

hi,
I am using JAAS based authetication for my application, how do i specify the config information for my web-based appication so that LoginContext knows where to look for the login configuration.
I need to know the tag, and the file where i can specify the above configuration
N.B for a console based application, it's done as follows:
java -Djava.security.auth.login.config=<any-name>.config
I am using: jboss-3.0.6
Thanks in advance

what u can do is:
1)create a role (which is nothing but a club of privilages) and each role specifies the access of resources at various level, and name the roles e.g project-leader, Developer etc.
2) u can resuse the above created role and assign it to various entities.
3) unlimited combination of privilages could be to create new roles.
JAAS framework provides support for role based Authentication/ Authorization.
Check out these useful links:-
JAAS. Start with the tutorials, then the Reference Guide and perhaps the white paper.
The Java Developers Almanac has a little bit of sample code too.

Thanks lasse, peter and kunal for your kind information. After analysing I have come to conclusion to use JAAS framework in my application.
Kunal your code seems to authenticate user whose ROLES/PRIVILIGES are well defined , but in my case I got to define the ROLES for the servives at user as well as the functional and operational level with the help of policy files and configuration file .And JAAS provides the API to authenticate the system from users, based on who runs the code and their permissions.

Hi everybody,
I got some problem in customising the JAAS sample code, I was refering to
http://java.sun.com/security/jaas/doc/api.html#Sample, though I executed the sample code sucessfully, but when i tried to alter the code (Just inserted few System.out.println()), and recompiled the code and rewrite the existing JAR, and tried to run it again, it gives me the following exception.
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: sample/Sample.
What could be possible reason of getting such exception? even though all the jars and class files are in the CLASSPATH
