1st of all if you want to create an executable format on a .java program what you need to do is to create a " .jar file " an executable form of java. Here's a guide where you can learn how to create a executable file or jar file.

http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jar/basics/build.html
If you still dont know how too then :

Try this for your program create 1st a manifest.tmp file in the notpad of your windows try typing this on you tmp file:
" main-class : yourmain.class "
After you figure out what java program you want to create a .exe for
then type this to the command promt :
c:\jdk1.3.1\javac\bin\jar Filename.jar manifest.tmp *.class
then press enter.
thats it you've just created a jar file.
Filename.jar here is the main java program that you put in the manifest file and also the one that you want to create an .exe for.
After finishing the .exe or the .jar file you can create an installer now, you need 1st to download the InstallAnywhere from http://www.zerog.com
Hope that helps . . .

What do you mean by your question ???
I'm certainly sure that awt & swing can produce GUI interface.
May be the reason why your saying that, is because you cant find any editor for Java like what you have in VB6.
If you want download the JBuilder from www.borland.com, if you want a GUI interface to interact with Java components like what you have in vb. Actually what you need to do in programming in JAVA, is you need to download the jsdk 1.4.2_01 or whatever version from sun. After that you need to do the programming in a note pad or on a builder like JBuilder.
Swing & AWT can produce GUI cause they are the ones we use for creating JAVA standalone applications. Java is not just a language its a platform with lots of capability that may blow your mind.
Java is J2EE, J2SE & J2ME, a powerfull programming platform not just for today but also in the future.

All of my button's just opens the dailog, thats it.
It wont open any .doc or .java file it wont append to the JTextArea the worst is it wont save any thing from my JTextArea and your correct it will go from finiding file and thats it, cause what I plan is to save everything on my JTextArea as a .java file or .doc and then open them by appending it to the JTextArea.
Is there something missing on my methods ?,
thank you for asking.

I have a JFrame with 2 buttons namely button1 & button2. The primary role of button1 & button2 is to open-up a dailog to open & save documents.
1.) button1 should open the file and append it to my JTextArea.
2.) button2 should save everything on my JTextArea.
Before they can do this, I need to pass my 2 methods which are openFile() and openSave() to my button1 & button2 Action Listner.
My problem is that I cant seem to open and save files on my JTextArea. Can anyone pls, look if I forgot something or there is an error. If you may can you tweak my codes so that I can do opening & saving on my documents.
Thank you . . .
Here's the process >>>
button1.ActionListner {
openFile();
}
button2.ActionListner {
openSave();
}

If you want to create an installer for java go to www.zerog.com and download InstallAnywhere.
In the database process however we can integrate the database but after the installation we still need to configure the database to the microsft odbc system under control panel.

If you want you can remove your Database and just create an input, output file by using random and sequencial access method of opening files. This can work with InstallAnywhere but can highly bit more complicated if you have never tried it before , thanks.

I'm sorry dude way back in my college years I've created a JAVA - MS Access software which is a payroll software for our univeristy I've used the InstallAnywhere but some how I can not integrate the database with the installer, you can include it in the installer but we still need to register it to the odbc of the os.

You can call JFrame by using a package declaration if you have 2 separate .java files and you want to connect them it doesnt matter if they are JFrame or JDailog as long as they are separate just call the 2nd one to the 1st one using package.
like :
package soan.jan.michael;
import soan.jan.michael.The Frame;
