Is there a program that would show if a java program would run correctly on different platforms, like Sun, Linux, Mac, that I can run on Windows. I don't have access to test my program on these machines.
The specs for the developer say to tell what platform your project was developed on; perhaps they won't ding you if it doesn't work on a Sun machine.
Beyond being a bad coding practice, to help programmer see what is being thrown, what is the problem of catching all exceptions with a general Exception catch or throw, and just use getCause() at the GUI or user interface of a program and deal with it there?
Thanks. Why isn't the flag an int instead of a short? Why 2 bytes?
The INVALID flag for a deleted record is 0X8000, which is 32768. A short in Java goes to 32767. This flag is 2 bytes in the database. Shouldn't it be a int, using 4 bytes; the compiler won't take this:
private static final short INVALID = 0X8000;
So what is the point of make files like Ant?

When you compile a Java class, does it compile all classes that have a reference in that class, all references in those classes, and so forth; both instances and static methods from other classes? Are library classes compiled when called from a class?
Thanks

What about this:
SearchString = searchField.getText(); //from JTextField
String[] strings = SearchString.split("\\s"); //split on space

How can I convert a String to a String array? I am grabbing a String from a JTextField; this value has to go into a method that needs it in String[] format. Thanks

I blanked out. I meant socketchannels. I can't find a stupid graemlin.
My requirements, for URLBird, for the User interface, just mention the search and booking a selected record. Does this mean I do not add read, create, and delete in the GUI, and just create those functions for possible future use? I will use read for the update function, but not use the create and delete in my project.
You might want to rethink ServerSocket. It is platform dependent.
Great site.
What is the point of multiple client instances of the Data or DataSchema class, or however the server-side is set-up to handle client requests, if one synch's off a static RandomAccessFile pointer? All the instances have to wait for the one pointer, so why not make everything a singleton?
Thanks
