1. As far as Exam 340 Vs 341 is concerned , they are different levels.
Try clearing 340 - Let me tell you that it is no cakewalk.
341 would be even more difficult.

2. Being difficult does not mean that you cannot do it , but you have to be
prepared to work hard.
The exam questions are Tricky.You have to know WAS well to answer them.

3. Unfortunately Redbooks are the only resources !!!

The IBM 340 Sample Exam Questions have been posted here .
Although it is good for people like me who r preparing for the exam!!!
As far as I know IBM does not permit publication of these questions
especially once the sample exam has become paid.
What is Javaranch's policy on this subject ?

Since you are targeting Websphere Certification I would say that
WSAD is NOT the right thing. As far as programming is concerned ,
there are many other certs like SCJP , SCWCD ,SCEA etc.
If you want to learn about Websphere then you should know that
only a Websphere App Server Cert can be of use and not WSAD.
And since WAS 5 is the latest , WAS5 Admin exam is the best.
Having said that , you know your needs better so think what
exactly do you want and plan . Best of luck !!!

Which Platform Does the Exam 340 (WAS 5 Basic Admin) focus on ?

I have come to know that redbooks and
online help is the only kind of help
available for Exam 340 i.e WAS5 Admin.
But there is nothing clear as to what
level is expected !!
Could anyone who knows the exam clarify
the following points :
1. I think the four or five redbooks which
are recommended at the IBM site contain
too much info and all that is not required
for exam 340 .

So am I right keeping that point of view ?
2. Secondly , the objectives look very vague
with many of them not covered in redbooks

Take an example of an objective :
Determine the prerequisite hardware/software
Now how do I know that this objective
should be studied in reference to which OS ?
So the problem is that I am not being able to
figure out as to what is expected.

I do not want to buy sample questions from some site
and then pass as that would be a waste .
A good answer to this thread can answer the
questions of many people who want to clear 340.

I went to your site.It said that we can get the sample of your product by
sending you an email.But there has been no response to that for a month.
Is it that you do not give samples as mentioned on your site ?
Moreover there is hardly any info on your site as in what sort of help does your product give for the certification.
A response would be highly appreciated

1. I have passed the SCJP 1.4 exam today with 85 %.
A big thanks to Kathy And Bert for such a good book.
Thanks to all of you who answered my questions.
2. Most of the questions were fine except one or two which
were ambiguous.
3. I was surprised to see a few of K&B questions !
4. For Kathy and Bert :
You have written an excellent book !
I gave the exam on your cd a day before the exam.
It was a big disappointment; not because i could not score,
( I scored 82 % ) but because it is a mess . It has only 90 minutes
limit.
This is not acceptable when you say that it is a simulator !

Please do something about this which will make your cd as good as the book.

I am giving the exam in two days. I just gave Marcus's exam for JDK 1.4 at JCHQ and got 92% . What do u guys feel ; Am i going to make it in the final ? As I have heard that marcus's exam foretells your score in the real exam !

I agree with Harwinder . None of the answers are correct.
e is wrong because it is not necessary that the garbage collector runs
only when there is low memory. it may run even when the memory is not low !

This implies that if base had implemented i then the code would have compiled !

I am giving the exam on Saturday .
I have prepared with K&B and also looked into Dan's questions .
I gave the sun sample questions exam and got 9 on 10 ! The questions were easy.
Hope that the real exam is also of the same level.
I would be giving marcus exam2 and K&B exam two days before the test !
Some of the questions which I had :
1. Could you give me an idea as to how many questions came in the following
sections and what was the level of difficulty :

a) Garbage Collection
b) Threads
c) wrapper classes
d) collections
2. Was time a negative factor ?
3. What is the general level of the exam ?
4. Is the emphasis on concepts or on syntax ( method signature , missing semicolon etc . )

Is only the Exam2 of marcus according to SCJP JDK 1.4 or all the exams are according to JDK 1.4

Can the public void run() method be implemented as
synchronized public void run() ?
Is it not improper to use synchronized ?
