I have been a habitual visitor to this site, and its been ages since I have posted here. Nevertheless, just wanted to let you know that I have cleared TOGAF 9 (Levels 1 & 2) today (20th November 2013) , with a cumulative percentage of 83.75 (TOGAF Part 1: 82.5% and TOGAF Part 2: 85%).

I have close to 13 years of experience in Java, having played various roles(Developer, Onsite Co-ordinator (in the USA), Team Lead, Project Lead, Technical Specialist), and possesing a TOGAF certification was on my TO-DO List for quite some time. Having got some free time , I signed up for a 4-day training course (to be immediately followed by the examination), with one of the Open Group Accredited Training Providers, SNA Technolgies, at Hyderabad India. At INR 67415(inclusive of the exam fees of USD 495), this training cum certification program is expensive compared to other certifications, and I had to be absolutely sure that I would pass this examination.

The 4-day course can be quite hectic, with lots of new topics like the ADM, Enterprise Continuum, Architecture Framework Capability and Content Meta Model being thrown in. What I felt challenging, was to recollect the steps to be followed across the Preliminary Phase, and the 8 phases (Vision, Business Architecture, Information Systems Architecture, Technology Architecture, Opportunities & Solutions, Migration Planning, Implementation Governance, Architecture Change Management and Requirements Management as well). And the case scenarios that are given in Part 2 require some very carefull reading, to pick out the best possible answer.

The allocated time of an hour for Part 1 is adequate enough, and I could actually complete the 40 questions in about 45 minutes, and spent the remaining time revisiting my answers. The 90 minutes allocated to Part 2, was more than enough, and I could complete the 8 questions (42 to 49) in about an hour.

Now with the certification under my belt, its time to scout the market to get into a EA team, to put this knowledge into practice - and thats going to be more challenging for me, than the exam I guess!!

hello Bear,
Thanks for reminding me. I will see to it that my future posts have properly structured and formatted English sentences, and not cell-phone language.
Coming back to the problem, I am afraid.. the problem still persists, in spite of me having added the code that was sent over by Mr. Murthy. Any other solution to this problem please.?

Hello all,
I have a rather stange problem at hand. I have a java server page which interacts with a class file(this class file deals with the database connections, and queries etc), and displays data according to a pre-determined format.
Sometimes, it so happens, that the data is not at all displayed. I get a blank page. However, if i open the jsp and make a small change to the file(assume that i press the enter key, at any empty section of the page, or something like that), and save that page, and refresh the browser, that page works fine, displaying all the data. I am using an Apache Http server for this project. I face this problem, every 2 or 3 days.. I have to go to the server, open the page, make that correction again, and save it... It runs fine.
Can anyone tell me why this problem occurs..? I mean, the developer is not expected to go over to the server and regularly refresh the page. The operating system is windows XP..

Hello All,
Having cleared SCBCD & SCWCD, my next goal is to do a certification on IBM Websphere, as many of the companies(in India) are asking for developers with experience in Weblogic/Websphere. Try as much as i can, I could not get hold of Howard Kushner's book on this exam in India. Can anyone tell me if at all this book is available in India, and if yes, from where can i get hold of a copy..?
Regards,
PVS Praveen Kumar
Kindly excuse me folks, for having replied a bit late for all the questions regarding SCBCD exam preparation...
In my exam, in three sections i could manage 100%, rest all were in the 65% to 70% range and in one section i failed miserably scoring ONLY 50%.. Pathetic!!!. I will be posting the scores shortly, as i don not have my marks list with me now...
My main prep was Head-First-EJB.. (I read, and reread that book at least 3 times, to check if i had missed anything).But folks please PLEASE go through the specifications.. DO NOT NEGLECT THEM.. That is one cardinal sin i had committed, for which I am repenting now.. 'coz there are certain topics, which are lucidly explained in the specs...
For exceptons, I took Print Outs of all the Classes.. NoSuchObjectException,FinderException etc.. 'coz there are chances that u might be confused between application & run time exceptions
FOLKS!!! Life Cycles ARE A MUST!!. You should get them so throughly, that you should be able to repeat them in your sleep!!. Lots of questions..
Try writing the Deployment Descriptor Completely once, one your own.. A lot of DD tags were understood in the proper perspective, when i put them down on paper....
DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED.. if u don't pass(or just manage to pass) in the HEAD-FIRST-EJB Mock Exam. Bert & Kathy have done a world of good (Thank u once again folks..) by having introduced multiple choice questions..' coz they will really test your knowledge.. Real exam is much easier...
Resources & Notes
1)Deployment Descriptor PDF File- By Crettaz--> Very informative.. U must get this
2)Bean Provider Responsibilities.pdf- By Crettaz
3)Exception Handling.pdf by Crettaz
4) EJB2.0 Specs-- MUST!!!
5) EJBDiscussion Groups at Yahoogroups.
MOCK EXAMS
1) jDiscuss Offers you a couple of mock exams. They are really good. Thanks to the folks at Enthuware.
2) EJBCertificate.com gives a demo exam
3) softSCBCD is also there.. but then, its not free...
So folks,
Hope i have cleared your doubts.. Will be posting the exam results shortly..

Hi Folks,
Cleared the SCBCD today, with 75%. Kudos to Bert & Kathy for having bought out such a wonderful book, which made learning EJB a pleasure. I was dissappointed with my percentage as i was expecting close to 80%. Anyway.. no probs.. Apart from Head First EJB, i also went through the EJB Specs.(Some chapters only) and took mock exams from jdiscuss.com. Thanks to the folks at jdiscuss also.

Hello folks,
In my database table, i have a coulmn which has a CLOB Datatype. I need to display the same on a web page. Here is the procedure that i followed:
1) In my java class, i have written a query to get the data from the CLOB row. I am using a Prepared Statement & a Resultset.
2) I am getting the output of the Resultset into a Clob variable
--> java.sql.Clob clb=Resultset.getClob("<Name-of-the-column");
3)I am getting the length of the variable clb into a long variable
--> long clbLength=clb.length();
4)I finally use the getSubString(long,int) of the Clob interface to get a String
--> int startPos=0;
--> String s=clb.getSubString(clbLength,startPos);
And I return this String from the Method..
However, when i call this method from my Jsp Page, I do not get any result.
Can anyone help me plz.?
Thanks in Advance,
Praveen
