Is the book J2EE Architect's handbook useful for SCEA part 1. The author is Derek C Ashmore.

Here is the link for the book

I know its not Mediator. Should be either Observer or Adapter.

Here is the reason, why I think it might be adapter.

"A provisioning system then queries data and makes appropriate calls to various subsystems using JMS on MQ Series" -- This means the provisioning system cannot directly call the other subsystems. ie, no way to invoke the subsystems directly. The JMS is acting as a "Messaging Integration" scenario, the bridge between the provisioning system and the other subsystems ( Don't confuse with the word bridge, bridge pattern is something else). So, Adapter looks to be right choice.

Above logic is why I am saying it be Adapter. But as I am a newbie to Patterns, I need someone to validate this. Experts please help.

Thanks,
Naveen
Ranchers,

I am confused between these two things.. JDO and JPA. Why two different framework for the same thing ? What level of understanding I need to have on JDO for the exam.

I already have read JPA. Do, I need to study JDO as well ? Or should I just remember the few differences like JPA is only for RDBMS, JDO supports many different databases; JDO more mature than JPA. ( I know only these two :-( )

Appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Naveen

Guys,

I came across this sample SCEA question and I would like you guys to help me with the answer. Also, please give an explaination why that answer is correct.

--------------------
Question : Julia Fractals Inc. is building a J2EE based application for Order Entry and management of their fractal software. Once the order is taken, it is submitted to a relational database. A provisioning system then queries data and makes appropriate calls to various subsystems using JMS on MQ Series. What design pattern is JMS an example of here?

A Observer
B Mediator
C Adapter
D Bridge
E Visitor
---------------------

Makes me feel the answer is Adapter. But I am not sure. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Naveen

Hi Praveena,

I have not yet appeared for the exam. I had to postepone the plans because I was required to travel to UK for a short assignment. I will be back to Bangalore next week and then start preparations again. Even I am planning to appear for the exam any where in Feb 05.

Pls let me know if you need any specific details.

Rgds,

Hi Dinesh,

I would re-start my preparations for the exam after 2 weeks.

I had started my preparations for the SCDJWS early October. And I had planned to appear for exam in mid of Novemeber. Due to some reasons, just after 2 weeks, i had to postepone my preparations.

Can you please advice me what would be good amount of time to clear this exam given the following conditions/informations
1) I have worked on WebServices for about 3 weeks using Axis. So, I know the basics of Webservices.
2) I can devote about 4 hours daily for exam.
3) I am not looking at a great score. But I want a comfortable pass.

Pls advice me about the time frame.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Naveen
Hi James / Yamini,

[For James] It would be really nice to prepare for certifications together. I am ready for it. Let me know what is ur status currently and what are your plans.

[For Yamini] Yes, I will be doing some hands on before taking the exam. Infact I am planning to create or take a small scenario and implement webservices features. This would give some practical knowlege of the subject.

I am reachable at naveen.sinha@gmail.com

Hi Yamini,

I am planning to appear for the certification by end of next month. Just last week I bought J2EE WebServices by RMH.I found the book really good. Apart from this I have Begining WebServices by Wrox. Even that book is good. But it's not as informative as RMH book.

When are you planning to appear for the exam? I can devote 4 hours a week and then week ends. So, I am willing to finish it up very fast. I have posted the a message asking ppl to give a rough estimates for the same.

If u have plans to seriously start preparations, we can prepare together. If we work in group, we would be more serious and have more continuity. Or if you know any one else really interested in appearing for the certifications very soon do let me know.

Naveen

Hi All,

Can any one of you tell the time duration it takes to prepare for this certification. What's the rough time frame it will take, if i am able to devote 4 hours per day. ( and full saturdays and sundays 12 + 12 hours)

Actually I am aware of basic concepts of web services and I have worked for about 15 days on JAX-RPC APIs. And in my next project which is going to start by end of next month, we would be heavily using webservices. so, i am planning to get a certification before we start the project.

My plan is do some small implementation at my home before i appear for exam. I do not want to score a very good percentage. But definately i want to clear in the first attempt

Please suggest me if my plans to appear for the test any time in mid of November is good and feasible or not. Also, if any one is preparing for the same and willing to finish it in short time frame, please contact me. We can do the preparation together.

Any additional advice and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Naveen
Hi All,
Yesterday only, I cleared my SCJP with 86%.
As currently I am not into any assignment at my office, I am thinking to take even SCWCD as soon as possible.
Someone please give me a rough idea about the time frame it requires to prepare for SCWCD.
To give you some data..I can devote upto 10-12 hours a day. And I have worked on Servlets/JSP for around 10 months. ( More exactly, i have worked more on Struts framework and i am aware about Servlets/JSP fundamentals)
I took around 2 weeks of preparations to complete SCJP ( around 7-8 hours daily). So, i am bit optimistic that SCWCD should not take more than a week. I am saying this based on the assumptions that -- 1) SCWCD is relatively easy and 2) Questions asked in WCD would be straight forward.. not very tricky. So, if i have worked on Servlets/JSP, it should not be that difficult. (I am not very much aware of the type of questions.. So, i may be wrong..) and 3)I am aiming for not a very big score.. around 80% would be ok for me :-)
Some one please advice me.

Naveen
