I haven't been to this forum for quite a while and now I really want to take this certification.

I the meantime Sun had been bought by Oracle and now they, Oracle, want the exam takers to take one course and pay for it. I want to ask, is this really mandatory as I read on the certification website?

Thanks,
Andrei
I have passed the SCWCD and SCDB exams and now I want SCEA.

I bought the Cade & Roberts book, but it is far from complete. I also have the Head First I used for the above exams. What else would you recommend? It would be great to have one big book to go through and pass the exam, like I did for the other exams. Unfortunatelly there is no such book.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Unfortunatelly I don't see the Comunity Edition on their website. How can I get a copy of it?
Hi,

I kust bought a new Mac and I'm looking for a free tool for drawing UML diagrams with it.

Thanks
I bought "Core J2EE Patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies". I saw that many topics in Caddy's book were covered in other books I have. I might buy that one too.

I am also wondering how dificult would be the practical part of the exam. I have only theoretical experience with J2EE, but I know how to write code. I haven't taken a J2EE project yet, so I hope this exam will give me more experience.

Thanks for your answers.

Hi,

What books did you use for SCEA part 1? I have the Head First for Bussiness Components and Web Components, but I don't think it is enough. There are topics like Concepts, Common Architectures, Legacy Connectivity, Protocols, Applicability of J2EE Technology, Design Patterns, etc. and I'm wondering what study material to use. At Sun they don't have recommended reading on this exam.

Regards,
Andrei
Thanks.

And do I need practice, do I need using tools like Rational Rose? Or the exam is a theoretical one.

Regards,
Andrei
Hi,

I want to take the 486 sometime in the future and I have no experience at all with UML. Are the two books recommended on the IBM's web site enough? What is the approach I have to follow in order to succeed.

Thanks,
Andrei
OK, I made the modification.

About Websphere, there is a way around the 60 days trial: install it all over again, every 60 days .

I don't understand how BEA can let us test its Weblogic, but IBM doesn't.

Hi,

I'm planning to use the Websphere Studio more than the time limit of 2 months for which the trial version is available. Is any work around to make it work unlimitedly?

I mention that I will use it for training purposes only.

Hi,

I plan to take the BEA 8.1 Certified Developer: Build Solutions certification exam. On their website they recommend, among other resources, this book: WebLogic The Definitive Guide, OReilly 2004. Do you think I can pass the exam by studying this book only? Or I should by another book? Which do you think is the best?

Thanks,
Andrei
There is no logo for the SCWCD. I don't know how is with SCBCD. I think it's the same.

Andrei
Thanks for your input. Maybe it's better to go on the IBM path if there are more companies that use Websphere, as Americo said.

There are some books on BEA Weblogic though:

BEA WebLogic Books

* Mastering BEA WebLogic Server: Best Practices for Building and Deploying J2EE Applications, John Wiley & Sons 2003, ISBN 047128128X
* BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 Unleashed, SAMS 2003, ISBN 0672324873
* BEA WebLogic Server Administration Kit, Prentice Hall PTR 2003, ISBN 0130463868
* WebLogic The Definitive Guide, OReilly 2004, ISBN 059600432X
* BEA WebLogic Workshop 8.1 Kick Start, SAMS 2004, ISBN 0672326221
