Well, there is no option to use getimplementationVersion(). The only option is getImplementationVersion().

But thanks for the idea.
I think this is the correct place for this, if not please excuse me. I have a jsp page that calls a ejb method that is supposed to return version of the package. The code in the bean file is "Package.getPackage(APP_EJB_PACKAGE).getImplementationVersion();" (APP_EJB_PACKAGE = com.estylesoft.cms.ejb).
This method is not erroring out but is not returning any value. From what I can tell the the Manifest.MF file is supposed to contain this value and the file has the following entry

Name: com/estylesoft/cms/ejb/
Specification-Title: Java Utility Classes
Specification-Version: 1.3
Specification-Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
Implementation-Title: com.estylesoft.cms.ejb
Implementation-Version: 0.0.0.7
Implementation-Vendor: E-Style Soft Case Magagement System

Can anyone here tell me what is wrong; because the jsp is testing for the value of 0.0.0.7 but the method returns a blank string.

Thanks for your help.
I hope this is the right section for this question. I have an J2EE application already (another programmer created it) and I want to try and create a .jar file containing all the .java files. My problem comes into play that there are multiple directories of these .java files. What is the command to invoke to create a .jar file to include all .java files in sub-directories?

Thanks for your help

Guess I should have posted some of the code -

error while compiling - web/billing/lineitems/search_li.jsp [1:-1] File "/web/billing/lineitems/condition" not found

jsp

<%@ page import="com.es.nbs.consts.*" %>
<%@ page import="com.es.util.*" %>
<%@ tablib uri="condition" prefix="cnd" %>
<%@ tablib uri="etags" prefix="etags" %>

I think I posted this in the wrong section, so here it is again.

I'm back again with more J2EE questions. I've downloaded Sun ONE Studio 5 and am trying to play around with some changes to the application I have inherited. I've mounted the directory with all the code and have made some minor changes (only hard coded text on a jsp page), I went to "build all" and now I'm getting errors stating "Unable to load class com.es.taglib.etags.ViewTag. I have the directory and the tag library but I'm guessing the path could be the issue.

Currently the directory I have mounted is c:\source\web which contains all source code. The tag lib are under c:\source\web\web-inf\tlds and the classes are under c:\source\web\web-inf\classes\com\es\taglib\etags.

The etags.tld which is referenced has a <tagclass> of com.es.tablib.etags.ViewTag

This all looks (to me) like it should work but is my directory setup correctly?

Thanks for all your help

Ok, well not the answer I was hoping to hear but thanks. Can anyone here suggest an IDE to use for J2EE development?
Thanks for your reply. I am working on the training issue but it is slow going to say the least. But can you tell me if I need to create a new .ear file and redeploy to make a change or is it possible to change a class file and just over-write the current one?

Just need to know what is involved (high level at least) for changing code so I can take that to my boss and force their hand.

Thanks again
I have inherited a mess, the company I work for outsourced some app development and after receiving the code fired to company. My problem is this, I'm a C# developer and I'm being asked to make changes to our Java J2EE applications and do not understand the structure.

We have an appliation running on BEA webserver and the .ear file was installed/unpacked (what ever the term is) and I need t make changes. I have the source code, so how can I make changes to a web page servered up by the app? Can I find the page on the server and just make changes? Do I have to make the change, make another .ear file and redeploy?

Any light you can shed on this subject would be greatly appriciated!
