JSP
Hello, I am trying to input data into a mySQL database using a JSP but when I run it through localhost I am getting an error saying- root cause java.lang.NullPointerException.
Dose anyone know what the problem is. I have put my code that is causing the problem below. Its taking in the information from another page alright. It just wont write it to the table. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

<%@ page import="javax.servlet.*" %>
<%@ page import="javax.servlet.http.*" %>
<%@ page import="java.sql.*" %>
<%
Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
String strUrl = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/niall";
Connection conn=DriverManager.getConnection (strUrl, "root", "password");
Statement stmt=conn.createStatement();
Connection con = null;
%>
<% // Fetch the form data
String into = request.getParameter("name");

// save info into the user's session
session.setAttribute("name", into);

//out.println(into); //It prints out here alright so it has takin in the information

String template = "INSERT INTO test (name) VALUE(?)";
PreparedStatement pstmt = con.prepareStatement(template);

pstmt.setString(1, into);
pstmt.executeUpdate();

if (pstmt!=null) pstmt.close();
if (con!=null) con.close();
%>

il have a look at that link. Thanks for your help
Im not quite sure what you mean. I cant get my head around what the problem is. I have been reading up on JSPs but i thought this code would work. Should i not have the connection code in the script?
Hello im trying to connect a mySql database to my website. I am using a Tomcat server and my connection code is in java. The server is up and running ok and i have my connection code which i believe is alright(see below) but it wont connect up for me. Once i run MY JSP page through the server ie. localhost 8080, the page runs alright but its as if not see my connection code at all. Its doesn’t say if its made a connection or not. Dose anyone have any ideas what the problem may be? Thanks

HaHa no im doing a project for college. Im going to make my own website with a database and search that i think now
no its all lower case in the code. I just typed it in on my post. I have tried setting up my variables but i dont think im doing it right
Hello I am making a website to search other database driven websites, the problem is I don’t have access to their databases. Is it possible to present a query to the websites I want to search so I can search the information that is extracted from their database?
Any help would be very much appreciated
Heya, Yea I can start the database in the command line and view the tables. The problem im having is when I run the page with the java connection code in it from internet explorer. When it starts up I get an error. I don’t think it’s the connection code is the problem. It says the problem is this line of code
Import java.sql.*;
But this is the first line of code so I think it is not recognising any of it and it is giving an error with the first bit of java it comes across. I think it might be something to do with the environmental variables. I have only set up JAVA_HOME. Do I need any for MySQL?
Thanks for your time
Hello, im am making a website with a MySQL database connected to it. I am getting an error and i think it could be that i dont have any environmental veriables set up for MySQL. The conection code is in java and i think its correct.
Dose anybody know do i need to set up Environmental Varialbles to get my database going and if so how to do it. Any feedback would be much apprecited.
Thanks
