I think the best way is to read through HFEJB do all the mocks and coffee crams. After that stop it for 1 week and make a simple application using EJB2.0 and WITHOUT referencing any EJB book. It doesnt matter if you are able to make one or not but this exercise will help you understand your week points very well.
After all EJB is for serious enterprise applications so its better if we read it from a persepctive of real life development.
I am planning to appear for IBM 486 exam and have only one month to prepare. Based on your experience of exam, is it possible to crack it with 1 months preparation, while you are working from 9-8.
You can use Eclipse for general Java Stuff like syntax highlighting and building your application by using ANT (Also a perspective in Eclipse). These building and organizing project stuff is tedious when done by hand.
BUT you should not use any plug-ins for EJB if you really want to understand and score good marks in SCBCD.
In production enviornments you can use NetBeans/WSAD/Eclipse with Lomboz
